Avatar is the highest grossing film ever. It captures your attention, gets you involved. Personally, I though when I saw the ad that it was stupid, until I saw it.
Basically the idea is that there are blue aliens on a different planet far from ours. They love nature, and only kill if necessary. Human-avatar hybrids are created so that the humans can manipulate every sensation as if you were the avatar.
Now is the concept realistic? Many think not. We are decades if not centuries away from making this kind of technology. But scientists are in the works of creating this sort of mind-controlled being. The hardest obstacle these scientists are facing is getting these things to have your thoughts and feelings as if you were converting into another being.
